Avoid buying fake UGG bootS

uggs boots

There are many ways to tell fake ugg boot

1) The bottom of the boot is raised or embossed with the UGGS insignia in a Classic Tall or Classic Short Authentic Ugg. A fake is flat.

2)The ones that are fake do not have a raised or embossed insignia on the bottom of the soles.

3) They are subject to copywright infringment as only Deckers is allowed to use the word UGGS. They have also copied Deckers labels and boxes.

4) The seller says they are made in New Zealand or Australia for a Classic Tall or Classic Short. ugg boots are Manufactured by Deckers Inc. They have been making them in China for the past 3 years. They used to make them in Australia and New Zealand but have not for 3 years or more. The uggs that are advertised as made in Australia or New Zealand are FAKES. They are not from Deckers Inc. They have copied the label and insignia but they are not from Deckers Inc.

5) You can report to UGG Australia any fake ones you see on ebay at sales@shoeshotsale.com or at the bottom of an auction of a Fake Ugg click on Report this Item.

6) UGG Australia has required any Authorized Ugg Dealer to promise and sign an agreement not to sell on ebay. So if they are buying them retail with tax and having to pay ebay and pay pal fees and they are not seconds and are grade a boots they will be selling for more than retail. Any boots you see being sold less are usually fakes. The price of the boot is a good indicator for a fake.

7) The quality of the stitching on the fakes is very bad.

8) The box is different: Genuine Uggs Box is one piece with a flip open lid attached. It is a strong sturdy box. The words “UGG Australia are wrten in the middle of the lid. The Ugg Logo is a starbust orange sun. It is not big but small. Ugg now as of May 2007 has a new box. It is a flip top box.

9) The Care Booklet that comes with the boots is in white. It has the words “Ugg Australi” embossed and it is square. Fake ones are badly printed and in silver. The colors are exaggerated. As of June of 2007 the Care booklet has been replaced with a cream colored card and an insert also in the beige color. The pictures in the booklet are sharp and clear. The fakes ones are not. They have been scanned and printed in color and appear fuzzy or unclear. Ugg no longer puts the white booklet in the box with the boots made after June of 2007.

10)Fake Uggs are taller than real uggs.

11)The heel of a fake Uggs is much narrower than a authentic UGG

12) Fake Uggs do not run a size larger as the real uggs do.

13) Fake Uggs are smaller with a wider ankle.

14) Some fakes are not sheepskin but wool dyed and will smell of the dye. it smells of paint/lacquer which comes from the dye used on the synthetic materials. The letters may have gaps between them in the fake in the real they are overlapping.

15) The shape of the front part of the fake ugg is shorter and goes up at more of an angel than the genuine UGG which has a rounder longer finish.

16) The Black Uggs have a black Sole and a Black Label with Ugg in white. The fake have tan soles and a brown label.

17) The sole in a real ugg is flexible. The fakes are rigid.

18) The sole in a real ugg is about a half inch or more, the sole of a fake ugg is very very thin maybe 1/4 inch

19) The height can be either taller or shorter than the authentic Ugg boots. One classic tall received recently from a fake was 10 inches tall for a size 6 US compared to 12 1/2″ 6 US for the authentic UGG. This means that the fake is not much taller than a classic short.

20)The box is different: Genuine Ugg Box is one piece with a flip open lid attached. It is a strong sturdy box. The words “UGG Australia are written in the middle of the lid. The Ugg Logo is a starbust orange sun. It is not big but small. As of April 2007, Ugg is not making the box with a seperate lid. The top of the box is no longer attached to the bottom. There is a big sunburst on top and’ugg australia’. The side of the lid has www.shoeshotsale.com.

21) The fake may have a blue label pinned to it or a brown cloth protection bag which says “Snow Boots” – these are not provided with Authentic Uggs.

22)The font of the inside label on a fake is different from a Genuine UGG. and the outside label will have the’australia’ in a bolder font on the fake . The label inside should say made in China. If it says made in New Zealand or Austraia it is a fake.

23) The selller leaves out any mention of Deckers in his description. He is selling Classic UGG Boots but not Deckers Uggs. Don’t be fooled by this if you want Deckers Uggs. The box used is similar and copies Deckers Box and Logo, but they are not Deckers Uggs. If you email the seller he will tell you that he does not sell Deckers Uggs. An unsuspecting buyer sees authentic and thinks they are getting Deckers . The seller i is sellling “authentic” australian uggs and leaves out any mention of Deckers.

24) If the Nightfall is any other color but Chestnut it is a fake. Deckers only makes Nightfall in Chestnut.

25)If you see a Sundance in any other color but Chestnut Sand or Chocolate it is a fake. Deckers has stopped making it in Black. There may be old stock around but any ones selling large amounts are probably fakes.

Secrets of the Stacks

The New York Public Library, with its headquarters at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, encompasses four major research libraries and 87 branches, with a total of 20 million books, 50 million cataloged items and a growing demand in this recession for loaner laptops and other free services. Only the Library of Congress and the British Library are larger. But even the Fifth Avenue landmark by itself is a marvel of big numbers. It is undergoing a $1.2 billion makeover in preparation for its 100th birthday. Built from 1899 to 1911, it cost $9 million, contains 530,000 cubic feet of white Vermont marble and 125 miles of shelving, and opened with an inventory of one million items. Here are some highlights of this fabled institution.

ANSWER ZONE The library began its telephone reference service in 1968; it is available online or by calling 917-ASK-NYPL (917-275-6975).
● How old is the moon? 4.72 billion years.
● Where was the toothbrush invented? China, in 1498.
● How often does the service receive questions? Every 10 seconds.

SADDEST ITEM In August 1820, a dying John Keats wrote a letter to his soul mate, Fanny Brawne, that begins with a fond salutation — “My dearest girl” — but goes quickly downhill. “I am glad there is such a thing as the grave,” he wrote. “The world is too brutal for me.” It ends with a romantic flourish: “I wish that I was either in your arms full of faith or that a thunderbolt would strike me.”

MOST FAITHFUL CUSTOMER Norbert Pearlroth, the head researcher for “Ripley’s Believe It or Not,” visited the library almost daily. Although he wrote about the incredible, his own routine was anything but: He sat at the same table for 52 years, from 1923 to 1975.

READY FOR ITS CLOSE-UP The library has figured in dozens of films, including “Sex and the City”; “The Wiz”; “The Day After Tomorrow,” right; “Spider-Man”; and “Ghostbusters.”

Sun’s Seeley to Head New, New York–Centric Section at WSJ

November 30, 2009 - 10:00 am No Comments

Earlier this year, The Wall Street Journal drafted plans for a New York–only culture section. It didn’t take long for that project to be shelved, and Rupert Murdoch’s Journal decided to take on the city itself—with a New York–only news section that will cover everything you’d expect from a local newspaper: politics, news, sports and, yes, culture.

“They want to do everything,” said one source familiar with the project.

Inside sources have told Off the Record that The Journal has hired John Seeley, the former deputy managing editor of The New York Sun, to lead the project. He is in charge of hiring outside staffers, and getting the section on its feet. The Times reported that a dozen outside reporters could be hired for the project, and sources told us that Journal staffers could be reassigned to the new desk as well. If all goes according to plan, the new section will debut next year.

Mr. Murdoch was an admirer of The Sun, which folded in September 2008.

In fact, immediately after he took control of The Journal in December 2007, Fox’s Neil Cavuto asked Mr. Murdoch if he planned on poaching reporters from The Times for his new acquisition. He said sure, maybe, but added, “The New York Sun is a very obvious place where are there some very fine journalists.”

A New York news section that reports on local politics and sports is perhaps the clearest statement that Mr. Murdoch is more than a little flexible in moving the paper away from its bread-and-butter business news.

It’s also a clear sign that Mr. Murdoch is happy to bring his fight with The Times right to its backyard. He has criticized The Times’ culture coverage in private meetings with staffers, and it wouldn’t be hard to believe he feels the same way about The Times’ metro desk. Though The Journal’s staff would be far smaller—more than 100 people work on The Times’ metro desk, including more than 60 reporters—a compact staff didn’t prevent The Sun from becoming an important read in the city, thanks to its heavy reliance on (sound familiar, New York Post reporters?) scoops.

“I’ll say the thing I’ve said about each previous Major Initiative announced by Mr. Murdoch—the glossy weekly magazine, the robust culture section, the daily sports section. We welcome competition,” said Bill Keller, the Times’ executive editor, in an e-mail. “We think it’s good for readers. We don’t shy away from it. But press releases aren’t competition.”

The Journal, however, has stopped short of issuing a press release on this one. The project has been kept well under wraps, and only a small handful of people are involved in the planning stages.

“They’re being really secretive about this,” said the source.

Former Sun staffers say that Mr. Seeley, who was the longtime night editor at the paper, could ground the big ideas that came from the paper’s lead editors, Seth Lipsky and Ira Stoll. He was well liked, and a solid editor. Though he wasn’t in charge of hiring reporters, he did hire editors.

“He ran the newsroom from 3 p.m. on, whereas Ira came in first thing and got the ball rolling with counterintuitive and provocative ideas in the morning,” said David Lombino, the former city editor at The Sun who is now working for the New York City Economic Development Corporation. “John would take it over after lunch.”

“He was the one person who was totally irreplaceable,” continued Mr. Lombino. “At the 3:30 p.m. meeting, he would be in there deciding what the front page would look like. He was the point man of putting it all together and he read every story in the paper every night.”

Mr. Seeley did not respond to an email or voice mail.

Dollar and government bonds rally as investors seek havens

November 29, 2009 - 9:49 am No Comments

A reappraisal of the much-discussed dollar carry trade – where the buck is sold to pay for other assets – saw the greenback rebound from a fresh 14-year low against the yen and pick up speed against a swathe of other currencies.

After falling below Y85 in Asian trading, the dollar was later up 0.2 per cent to Y86.76. It rose 0.4 per cent against the euro to $1.4957 and climbed 0.2 per cent on a trade-weighted basis to 74.99.

US stocks opened their half-day session sharply lower, though they managed to pare losses. The S&P 500 closed 1.7 per cent to 1,091.50. At one stage, equity futures had been pointing to a 3 per cent decline on concerns about possible financial contagion from the Dubai crisis.

European stock markets initially added to Thursday’s heavy losses, though the improvement in New York helped the FTSE 100 finish up 1 per cent at 5,245.7, and the FTSE Eurofirst 300 gained 1.2 per cent to 999.59.

The volatile session in Europe followed another day of sharp falls in Asia as analysts struggled to calculate what would be the full impact of Dubai’s difficulties. Banks and construction stocks with links to the emirate were particularly badly hit.

The Nikkei 225 in Tokyo fell 3.2 per cent to 9,081.5, with exporters again bearing the brunt as the yen soared. The Kospi in Seoul was one of the worst performers in the region, losing 4.7 per cent to 1,524.5, its worst day since January. The sell-off took both bourses to four-month lows

Mainland China’s benchmark, the Shanghai Composite, lost 2.4 per cent and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 4.8 per cent to 21,1134.5, with index heavyweight HSBC taking a battering.

In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 slumped 2.9 per cent to 4,572.1 as resource groups joined financials in the sell-off, as commodity prices pulled back.

Oil broke back below the $75 mark, at one stage but was later down 2.4 per cent to $76.06, helping to lead the commodity complex off its lows.

The haven of triple-A government bonds was much in demand. The benchmark US 10-year Treasury yield fell 7 basis points to 3.20 per cent. Meanwhile, the yield on the two-year Treasury note was at 0.68 per cent, down 6 basis points on the day. The two-year yield was up from an overnight low of 0.608 per cent, just above the 0.604 per cent record low established last December.

Japanese bonds also rallied as equities slumped and data showed that deflation continued to stalk the land. The yield on the 10-year JGB fell 4 basis points to a seven-week low of 1.25 per cent.

Tiger Woods ‘was fleeing his angry wife’

November 29, 2009 - 9:47 am No Comments

POLICE went to the home of Tiger Woods, the world’s No 1 golfer, last night to question him after a car accident outside his Florida home left him bleeding and unconscious in the street and his wife holding a golf club.

Two officers of the Florida Highway Patrol visited Woods, 33, and his wife, the former model Elin Nordegren, 29, to talk about the circumstances of the incident which they described as “unusual”.

There has been speculation about the state of their marriage after the golfer’s name was linked to a nightclub hostess in a magazine article.

Unconfirmed reports said the couple, who have been married for five years, had had a row at their Thanksgiving dinner before Woods took off in his new Cadillac Escalade 4×4 at 2.25am on Friday and hit a fire hydrant and then a tree. Police ruled out alcohol as a factor.

Police chief Daniel Saylor, whose officers were first on the scene, said Nordegren appeared to be “very upset”.

Officers found Woods lying in the street with his wife hovering over him. Saylor said Nordegren had used a golf club to smash the car’s rear window to get to her husband.

Woods’s lips were cut and he had blood in his mouth. Officers who went to his home later were turned away by his wife who said he was resting.

His agent, Mark Steinberg, denied reports in the National Enquirer magazine that linked Woods with a nightclub hostess. Steinberg said Woods had met Rachel Uchitel, 34, at a club but that there was no “romantic relationship” between the two. Uchitel, besieged by reporters at her New York home, said it was “totally untrue”.

The magazine said it was standing by its sources. It claims the two were together recently in Melbourne while Woods was competing in the Australian Masters.

The celebrity website TMZ claimed Woods was confronted by his wife with the report that he had been seeing Uchitel.

The argument grew heated. According to TMZ’s source, the golfer beat a hasty retreat in his car with his wife behind.

The messages between police deputies responding to the incident showed that at 2.29am Woods was reported as being unconscious. Almost five minutes later another message said he was breathing. The accident was described as “vehicle versus pole”.

Damage to the front of Woods’s car was described as “not real extensive, but not real light”.

A statement on the golfer’s website said: “Tiger Woods was admitted, treated and released from the hospital today after he was involved in a minor car accident outside his home in Florida early Friday morning.”

Woods has won 14 of golf’s major championships.

Sun’s Seeley to Head New, New York–Centric Section at WSJ
